Mailing Lists
IRCnet Channel #blighty has a number of mailing lists associated with it. This is a brief summary of what's available. As a general rule if an unfamiliar email address subscribes to one of the lists you might get asked who you are, please don't take that personally!

To subscribe/unsubscribe from any of the following lists, send a message to majordomo@lists.cloud9.co.uk with the words subscribe mailing-list-name in the body of the message, where mailing-list-name is england or binaries or wags.
Note that the mailing list software will send you some information about how to use its features, including unsubscribing. It will suggest you keep that mail for future reference. So do I! People frequently ask questions about how to unsubscribe or how to change their address on the list. It's all in the mail, read it!
NB occasionally people ask me why they've stopped receiving list mail: usually this is because they've gone over quota on their mailbox and list messages are bouncing back to me. After a week or two of receiving "Can't deliver mail" messages I tend to lose patience and delete that person from the list: if I've done this I'll normally try to contact you via IRC/ICQ/whatever to let you know. If in doubt, drop me a line and I'll confirm or deny or whatever.

Mailing Lists
General chatter, jokes, bitching, whatever goes to england@lists.cloud9.co.uk
No binaries, message size limit 40kb, only subscribers can post. Anyone confused as to why it's 'england' when the channel's called #blighty (I doubt it but you never know), the official answer is "historical reasons" :)
The bit above that says "only subscribers can post" is important. Most people have more than one email address these days, but if you attempt to send a mail from an address which isn't subscribed to the list your mail will not get through. It will bounce to me where, if you're lucky and I have the time, I might either forward it to the list or mail you to tell you that got it wrong. If I'm too busy to deal with it I'll probably just hit delete though.
Binaries (ie any post which has an attachment) go to binaries@lists.cloud9.co.uk Here's a clue: this is the binaries list, meaning that mails are likely to be LARGE, probably several megabytes in size. Please don't subscribe if either your bandwidth or your mail spool quota can't handle this sort of thing.
Only subscribers can post.
Parental advisory (for both the above lists): may contain rude words, don't subscribe from work if you have a mail checking filter or something else that might get you in trouble for that reason.
Wagamama's / curry / generic drinkies get discussed on wags@lists.cloud9.co.uk
Only subscribers can post, tends to be quite London orientated at the moment (but doesn't have to be).

None of these lists are particularly high traffic, although obviously the binaries list may sometimes have some very large messages to download. Archives are available over here.
While on the subject of archives, channel #blighty logs are also available online. Note that this directory is password-protected but if you drop me a line or msg me on IRC I'll happily let you in :)
